Nelson: Greensburg, South Greensburg, New Stanton and Youngwood Among Grant Awardees

December 18, 2025

HARRISBURG – Nearly $2.5 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grants to help local communities complete public works projects were distributed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Westmoreland) announced today.

“Our local officials work diligently to save taxpayer money while still making certain that important projects are completed. These grants help accomplish just that. Many of these projects support facilities used by visitors from all over the region, enhancing our local economy,” Nelson said. “It was great to work with Sen. Kim Ward to make sure neighborhoods in our area are prioritized.”

LSA grants support economic development, job training, community improvement and public interest projects through gaming funds generated at Pennsylvania casinos. The CFA is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development. It distributes funding through several programs dedicated to economic growth.

The city of Greensburg will receive $900,000 for a project to rehabilitate the Bell Parking Garage, which serves visitors to the Westmoreland County Courthouse, Seton Hill University, the Amtrak station, and numerous businesses and events in downtown Greensburg.

In South Greensburg Borough, $365,000 was awarded to remove an existing volleyball court and build a new pavilion at Huff Avenue Park.

Parkgoers to New Stanton Park will see improvements to the parking lot, trail surfaces, as well as the installation of an outdoor kitchen, while the borough will also be obtaining maintenance equipment for use at the park, as well as along roadways. In all, nearly $400,000 was awarded to New Stanton.

Both infrastructure and recreation are prioritized in more than $400,000 in grants awarded to Youngwood Borough, where residents will see street repairs on two allies in the 200 blocks of North Fifth and Sixth streets, and another alley connecting Depot and Haller streets. In addition, visitors to Youngwood Borough Park and Pool will soon see a new restroom facility, improving ADA compliance.

Other disbursements to the 57th Legislative District include:

Economic Growth Connection of Westmoreland to purchase ambulance equipment for Mutual Aid Ambulance Service --- $230,000.
Westmoreland County forinstallation of hot water storage tanks -- $117,000.
Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corporation to replace a geothermal system located in the Greenforge facility -- $70,000.
